What art schools in Europe would you recommend for higher studies?
Q. Hello. I would be glad if You shared your opinion about studies of visual arts in high European art schools, be it academy or university. I'm actually looking for studies in English language, and I'm particularly interested in schools, providing combined course of fine arts, some practical things, like design, and art history. Thank you.

A. For an English speaking art school, check out Glasgow School of Art. That's where I'd go for graduate school if I had any money. Also check out Edinburgh College of Art.

What makes someone an art "expert" to determine the quality and meaningfulness of a work of art?
Q. Isn't all art and beauty in the eye of the beholder? If I think Magritte, Dix, Van Gogh, Monet, and Raphael are great and Harring, Pollock, and Warhol are totally over-rated, how is my opinion worth any less than someone who has taken lots of art appreciating and art history classes? \ Who gets to determine what is great and important art and what isn't?
Asked by Critical_rationalist - Mon Apr 27 10:38:39 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Your opinion isn't worth less than theirs, however they are looking at art in a more complete mold (sometimes). They have been educated to see art as an entire lump and then to see the different periods that art went through. That being said I agree with your easements of those artists. Sometimes people get caught up in trendy!

A. The one martial art that works the best for me is Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu. I also love Judo. I've trained in Tae Kwon Do Chung Do Kwan, BJJ with the police dept., and short periods of time in various other martial arts. As any good martial artist knows, there is no best martial art. It all depends on the individual.

What makes a work of art (painting, music, film, sculpture, literature, or whatever) a good one?
Q. Are there conditions such that any work of art (of that kind) that meets them will be a good one, and any work of art that does not meet them is not a good one? Why or why not? If you think there are such conditions, what do you think they are? Why? Are the conditions different for each of the different kinds of art forms, or are there some criteria common to all good works of art, no matter what kind of art they are?
Asked by Jack Mehoffer - Mon Jun 30 03:06:23 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. there is such a thing as bad and good art forms. today, many people think of art as being very open ended as if everying is good and it is only up to the persons taste. it is rather subjective, but good art is the product of an artist being aware of the marks, sounds, movements, ect. also, a TRUE artist (not just a craftman) has developed a sense of self-awareness compared to his/her environment. these artists do the best they can for the sake of the work. when some one pairs great technical skill with idiosyncracy, they have made a good piece of art. look up Henry Williams for music and jacob collins for visual art.

How do I display album art of music folders in large icon view of Windows 7?
Q. Sometimes, within my album folders, the album art doesn't always show in the large icon of the folder even if there's an album art for the music files. What determines exactly what album art shows, since some folders show it and some don't. There are no hidden files either of image files, as all the album art are embedded to the mp3 files.
Asked by bcl4787 - Sat May 15 03:43:06 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It can act a little funny sometimes but I keep an image of the album art in the album folder along with the song files. I do have album art applied to my song files too. Then I just go into properties and click the customize tab. Click the Folder Picture, Choose File Box, and find the picture. Select OK, apply and am good to go. Now here is the act funny part. Only the one picture of the album art, after you do what I described above, will show. At some point in time you might see two images of the same album art there. I always figured the embedded album art from one of the song files worked it's way to the surface. I always get my album art from wikipedia. Thought I would add that. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

How can training martial art makes a man to build his ripped muscles?
Q. Some people have been training martial art for years but they seem to look fat. Some people look so muscular due to martial art training. Some martial art practitioners have been training a lot and they become fast and energetic but their bodies seem to be average with no muscles at all.
Asked by Ephram Saracen - Thu Oct 29 02:40:23 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Martial arts training in it's self will not build strong muscles without some type of weight training program. Even if you do calisthenics, ie push-ups and sit-ups... you'll be fit but you will not have rippling muscles. Make sure you stretch out every day along with your martial arts and weight training routines. Other wise you'll be extremely muscle bound and it will effect your speed and agility. No-use being the strongest man in the world when you no longer fast enough to swat a fly.

What subjects are most important to art colleges?
Q. I know art is the most important, haha. But other than that are there certain subjects that they look at more closely? I was thinking they may look at anatomy if you're going to be doing a lot of art regarding the human figure, and maybe history since art colleges require you to take an art history class (right?). Is math important? Or foreign language? Thank you!
Asked by Kyrstin - Sat Jun 20 16:56:42 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Well for an art history major, a foriegn language is importantand required for graduate school, but I'm not sure about an art major. I've looked through my school catalog nd at the required courses for an art major and math isn't one of the classes required for the degree except for the general education requirements. At my school art majors are requred to take at least 4 or 5 art history classes. There is also a specific class for drawing the human body and also an intermediate class for that as well. Leonardo and some famous artisits actually got permission to cut up catavers in order to know how the human body works and how it looks like from the inside, so an anatomy class wouldn't hurt.

When doing art, what is most important when deciding which skills to develop?
Q. Is it more important to do art revolving around subjects you find interesting, revolving around a certain area that not many people have ventured into, or revolving around something not necessarily what you find interesting but something you can excel with? I know this is kind of a stupid question because art means different things to different people I'm just looking for different opinions to gain personal insight and inspiration. Thanks.

A. If you are planning on selling your art, you need a unique look to make you stand out from the millions of other aspiring artists out there. I buy a lot of art, and I look for paintings and pottery where the artist's personality shows in the work, and where I feel he or she would be fun to know.

A. Hey, I don't want to insult your spirit as an artist, but are you talking about what's "selling" in the art world right now? I'm a professional artist and if you want to know what is SELLING go to the library and look at the magazines like Architectural Digest, Veranda, Colonial Homes, Southern Living, Decor, etc. It's crass, it's selling out, but if you want to make a living at what you love best - making art - you'd better do what the Renaissance masters did - and find out what the rich folks are buying.

A. you have to check their website, also what program are you applying for, fine art, interior design, architecture etc? If you can't find the info on their website phone them. They do offer portfolio review days if you live close enough sign up for one. Rest assured, the majority of people applying will come straight from highschool so you all have a level playing field. Commonly they look for a variety of techniques and subjects, usually a self portrait should be included.
