I'm trying to make a list of around popular 50 artists (painters, sculptors, etc.) from any time period (classic to modern). The types of names I want are those that are rather well-known, so if someone makes a reference to him/her in conversation, most people would know who they mean. Q. I was just wondering why it's so difficult to find grants to help writers advance their craft. In the past I have looked and looked for any kind of foundation that would help out potential literary talent. There are almost none. Yet if you search for grants for painters and sculptors you find a truckload of sources. What makes writing so different from painting and sculpting? They're all considered forms of art. Shouldn't there be as many opportunities for writers as there are for painters and sculptors? Most aspiring writers (myself included) don't have the kind of money that it takes to get our feet in the door and get our work published. Painting costs a LOT of money - paints themselves cost $7 for a small tube, canvas are expensive, and brushes are the biggest hit of all. Sculptors, I assume, have to buy their own clay and sculpting knives. Writing on the other hand, is pretty cheap. Electrcity for the word processor, and you're good to go.
